Fundamentals

Over this six session course, eight core skills of clay handbuilding will be taught and practised in blocks of two and a half hours on a Tuesday morning 10am until 12:30 or Wednesday evening from 6:30 until 9pm. Each GoogleMeet session will start with wedging clay together, initially responding to feedback on previous week's work, chatting through our intentions and then moving on to the target activity. The session will wrap up with an evaluation of our work.

Materials

Course fees of £150 include 12kg of clay, a starter tool kit, expert online tuition, and kiln and glaze fees. Once artworks are complete, a collection point will be arranged for me to gather the work for bisque firing. This will mean a break of one week to allow for the firing process after which we will meet in person for a session to glaze together. Work will be ready, a maximum of two weeks later for collection.

Camaraderie

A week before the course starts, a central pick-up location will be organised where the group can meet briefly and receive the materials. Breakout Rooms may be used during the workshops for specific activities and other social opportunites will happen when we drop work off for an initial bisque firing and when we come together to glaze the work in preparation for the high firing. One final pick up will take place two weeks after the final workshop session. Plenty of contact time!
